This infographic from Online Clock looks at a common phobia – The dark. Being afraid of the dark, also referred to as Achluophobia or Nyctophobia, impacts many people. While this is population is largely made up of kids, according to this infographic, 5% of adults are afraid of the dark – this is 8% females and 2% males. Fear of the dark is very common in children ages 4-6. For most children, this fear subsides after the 9 year old mark. This infographic argues that our fear of the dark is often rooted in potential violence. In a study of lion attacks in Tanzania, 60% of attacks were between 6:00 pm and 9:45 pm. Further, people are often more afraid of crime at night.
